- radiation fog
- /reɪdieɪʃən ˈfɒg/ (say raydeeayshuhn 'fog)
a fog caused by the lowering of the ground temperature as absorbed solar energy escapes from it, as at sunset, the moist air closest to the ground quickly cooling to dewpoint; occurs mainly in moist air on cloudless nights within a high pressure system, and particularly after rain.
